"Do you even know what cinco means? It means 3!!!"

Hey yall! It was a pretty cool week so let's get into it! On monday, I had English tutoring in the morning as usual. We've moved to 2 hours classes so it's honestly quite mentally draining but I've already seen some improvement in this last week. We made some more jokes as, if you remember from last week, there is a word she says with a really funny accent. The word is Yoga so now every time she says something in a funny way or either of us need a laugh, we just say yoga. We went through a lot of family vocab so it was pretty fun! She also had to try to interpret my drawings so pray for her there lol. I also played a bit with one of the founder's kids as he was just running around being a menace but it was fun. Only had english class that night so the rest of the day was spent mostly resting which was pretty great. English class is going well and they are set to test this week so we'll see how that goes! Tuesday was a pretty normal day with everything except th...

Una Semana con Muchisimo Español

Hey y'all! This week was pretty chill but also chaotic? Let's just get into it! Monday was quite lovely. My student that comes in everyday and I had a very good laugh as she kind of pulled out what I would classify as a California accent for one word in particular. I don't remember the particular word but, for context, she speaks Haitian creole so that was certainly very different from her usual accent! Pretty dang sure she was teasing me a bit and it set our lesson back a few minutes due to how hard we were both laughing but it was fun. After that, a man came in that needed help with some stuff but he only spoke spanish. Unfortunately, everyone who speaks Spanish in the office wasn't there at that time so it was my time to shine! I was able to get him the help he needed at least but it was very very rocky. The clinic was pretty great except one of the assistant PT's was a bit sick and had to go home early which meant a good part of it was just chaos to be honest. ...

Im an Aunt!!!

This week had some high highs and a few lows but again, things are pretty great! Let's get into it! Monday was fairly interesting! I finally got some consistent work at UVR to the point where any time I have free time there now, I will absolutely have something to do, which is quite nice. I was also informed that I will have someone consistently every monday and tuesday morning but more on that in a second. The clinic was quite nice and I again got to practice a good amount of Spanish with general convos. English class was a mix of good and bad. One of my lovely students informed me her daughter has been deported and so her and the other student were very stressed and tired from trying to figure stuff out basically all day. It was very sad and I would greatly appreciate it if yall kept them in your prayers at this time ❤️ Class itself went fairly well though. Tuesday was pretty chill. I got to have my first lesson with that student I mentioned earlier! her English is fairly good, ...

That wasn't tofu

Hey y'all! Another great week here in Orem. I'm frankly quite tired but absolutely loving it. Feels really great to be making an impact, even a small one. I also finished the New Testament which means I have officially read all 5 works. Let's get into it! Monday was pretty cool. I got to scan a crap ton of documents in the morning to help with emigration and citizenship which was really cool. The clinic was also quite cool as, due to feeling decent that day, I was able to do more of the workouts with people. I also chatted with someone for like 30 minutes solo en español and that felt really great. They also let me do some blood pressures, so fun stuff. I can also apparently almost do a pull up despite taking a health break from working out so 😎. We also worked a lot on the alphabet this week and associated sounds and they're starting to recognise certain words and letters and it is so amazing. Tuesday was a little different than usual. A family thing came up for the...

Aguja versus búho

Hey everyone! I hope it's been a good week. Still vibin here so let's get into it! Monday was pretty chill. This week I helped mostly with finding some housing for a refugee family as well as some more interview help in the mornings at UVR. The clinic was also pretty chill but I did have a mix up, as you can probably see from the title. So you see, I was shadowing one of the PTs for some dry needling (basically acupuncture) and they were speaking in Spanish, most of which I was understanding until the word "aguja" kept popping up. I heard "buja" which made me think they were either saying owl (buho) in feminine or witch (bruja). I then asked as neither made sense in context. Needle. Aguja means needle which also makes far more sense in the context as he was discussing medical fears. They laughed a bit but at least I know another word now! One of the assistant PT's Bet also makes killer salsa and she learned I love it so I have some delicious snacking in...
