Una Semana con Muchisimo Español
Hey y'all! This week was pretty chill but also chaotic? Let's just get into it!
Monday was quite lovely. My student that comes in everyday and I had a very good laugh as she kind of pulled out what I would classify as a California accent for one word in particular. I don't remember the particular word but, for context, she speaks Haitian creole so that was certainly very different from her usual accent! Pretty dang sure she was teasing me a bit and it set our lesson back a few minutes due to how hard we were both laughing but it was fun. After that, a man came in that needed help with some stuff but he only spoke spanish. Unfortunately, everyone who speaks Spanish in the office wasn't there at that time so it was my time to shine! I was able to get him the help he needed at least but it was very very rocky. The clinic was pretty great except one of the assistant PT's was a bit sick and had to go home early which meant a good part of it was just chaos to be honest. I was able to help a bit and I think I got the respect of the PT's though so that's a plus! Tuesday was interesting as my student didn't show up so, after clearing out a crap ton of emails, I called her and learned she wasn't coming in. Welp. It did mean I got to fully finish one of the cultural orientation presentations and make some buttons so that was chill! It was also a bit funny as one of the people there hummed the tune of "hellfire" for like three notes and, if you know me, you know I LOVE the hunchback of Notre dame and I was immediately like whatttt. She teased me a bit but it started a really fun convo as she also loves the movie. The clinic was again chaos due to that PT being sick and another not speaking Spanish and some difficulties with the translators. It all worked out though. Class was a tad chaotic as I was feeling fairly sick but they needed the books I had for class that day so I stuck around for a bit. I soon discovered that most of the teachers don't work very well patience wise with one of the students I've been teaching so I stuck around longer to help out there. Laying down felt like heaven after that. Wednesday was family haven and some cleaning and stuff. At family haven, I was chillin for a bit then realized one of the kids only really speaks Spanish and no one else there spoke Spanish so, since it was chill enough, I was able to spend most of my time there playing and chatting with her which was very fun. Luckily, as she loves playing doctor, I know some basic medical spanish so that was actually really great. I also got to see my lovely little nephew once I got home so that was quite lovely. Thursday was a quick brunch with my bestie Sarah as well as my laundry shift which was a bit difficult but good. My PoTS has been a real gem this last week to the point of me having to lay down at a couple of my sites and take salt pills and the temple was unfortunately included in that. Luckily just sitting, chugging water, and popping some salt worked well enough without me having to fully lay down but still. It's just due to the temp spiking but uggghhhh. I was able to get through it luckily though as one of the sisters from my district was there and was having some struggles. I wish I would have had a little more patience but it seemed to help her quite a bit regardless to have someone there to explain and listen. Friday was again family haven, comp study, and my first day with the hermanas!!! Family haven was genuinely the most dead i've ever seen so we sanitized a lot of the toys for most of it. Some of them were absolutely disgusting to be perfectly honest. Comp study was pretty great but sadly the last as a trio as now it's just me and Sister Rhinehart but we're going to have a party! Going out with the hermanas was so, sooo much fun! It was good to practice my Spanish skills too. I won't share that much as this email is getting quite long but long story short, they are very chaotic, love spanish rap, and one ate some random grapes hanging over a fence. Email me if you want the details though. We have reached the consensus with both comps that I am a good luck charm when it comes to getting food but appointments are also canceled far more than usual when I'm there so I guess there's a balance? The hermanas invited me to their language study and dinner next week though since we had such a party together so i'm quite excited! Saturday was nice but also a tad chaotic as usual. The temple shift included me catching a wasp, almost falling down the stairs, and handing out a LOT of towels in the baptistry. It was quite lovely though! I also got to see a very newly married couple in the celestial room which was very sweet. Going out with the sisters was pretty nice as, while it was a little bit of a later start than i expected, we finally got to have a lesson not just share a spiritual thought. It was with a new convert who was struggling with the church culture he's witnessed in Utah. I was able to share a message that I thought worked very very well in his situation and I felt I was prompted to share, just to be informed by him that he does not like the Book of Mormon much but loves D&C. RIP me i guess. After some other attempts from the sisters, it became apparent he was seeking a rather specific answer though and honestly a bit of free therapy from us but that's fine by me! As I was driving them home, I learned they have someone they've been bible bashing a bit with the last week that they hoped to introduce me to this week but, due to the very extended lesson, they were unable to. I guess I have something interesting for next week though. The Hermanas also ran to the car when I pulled up for a quick chat so that was quite fun too. This morning, I got to go to my trainer's homecoming which was rather lovely. It was good to see her again. I'm also making some decent progress in the BOM in Spanish so that's fun! I got quite a bit of Spanish practice this week and I'm ready for more! I'm also adding some more sites in a week or two so that will be nice to add some freshness. I'm just praying that fall comes fast because my gosh does the heat drain me!
Scripture of the Week:
1 Nephi 16:23
"And it came to pass that I. Nephi, did make out of wood a bow, and out of a straight stick, an arrow, wherefore, I did arm myself with a bow and an arrow, with a sling and with stones. and I said unto my father: Whither shall I go to obtain food?"
Love yall!
