Aguja versus búho
Hey everyone! I hope it's been a good week. Still vibin here so let's get into it!
Monday was pretty chill. This week I helped mostly with finding some housing for a refugee family as well as some more interview help in the mornings at UVR. The clinic was also pretty chill but I did have a mix up, as you can probably see from the title. So you see, I was shadowing one of the PTs for some dry needling (basically acupuncture) and they were speaking in Spanish, most of which I was understanding until the word "aguja" kept popping up. I heard "buja" which made me think they were either saying owl (buho) in feminine or witch (bruja). I then asked as neither made sense in context. Needle. Aguja means needle which also makes far more sense in the context as he was discussing medical fears. They laughed a bit but at least I know another word now! One of the assistant PT's Bet also makes killer salsa and she learned I love it so I have some delicious snacking in my future it seems. Im bringing her some cookies tomorrow cause duh! I ended up not doing much for English class that night as they had a test so I got to go home early and meet Omar (my sisters boyfriends) family, which was so beyond fun!
Tuesday was about the same except for one very exciting thing. In my breakoff from English class where we've been working on sounds, we are now switching to starting reading and writing! I am so excited and so proud. It's going to be difficult but I can't wait!!! I also went for a lovely walk with Hinkley again due to the clinic being really slow. Wednesday was family haven and good news, I only had one kid climb on me this time so that was great. It was also fun to get to play with the kiddos a bit more this time. After my shift there, I received some info that a sister really needed some help moving so I headed over. The first bit was quite stressful as I was literally the only one there except her and her fiance and kids for about the first two hours. I got to move a fridge up the stairs though which was a bit terrifying and exhausting but also really rewarding. Luckily, a ton of other service missionaries came for the next few hours so were we able to get her moved! Very glad for that as I don't think my body would have done well otherwise. Laying on the floor fixes all though.
Thursday was a laundry shift at the temple which was really fun but I did end up handing out clothing in the baptistry, which is really great except I felt kind of awkward due to what I was wearing. In the laundry, you can wear short sleeves, which I do as it helps a lot. Most ordinance workers wear long sleeves though. No one made any comments or made me feel uncomfortable, it just felt wrong but I made some new friends up there so that was great. I am going to start bringing a cardigan to those shifts though in case they put me up there again. Friday was pretty chill, just family haven again. Things were going really great until a kid proceeded to sneeze all over me multiple times, sending a pretty big snot rocket onto my arm, and then expected me to keep reading. I did but also requested a tissue cause nawwwwww. I did make some cookies that day too cause some brown butter dark chocolate cookies sounded fantastic. Saturday was my ordinace shift which was pretty great! I got my nametag finally and saw both of my parents on shift as well as some friends. I also made a new friend due to us being in the same section for quite a long time.
Going out with the sisters was also quite great. We saw an absolutely adorable bunny (video and picture in photo album) and got to share a message with some friends. I do have a little joke with the sisters now as I know just about every person we knock which is really fun but also a bit funny tbh. I did get to lead the discussion this week too! I saw an EMT sticker on her car and really wanted to knock but the sisters didn't really want to but said we could if I led stuff. We then went in and I learned she's a convert from the Philippines who's been struggling a bit. The car was not hers actually so no fun chatting there but we had an amazing discussion, even if I struggled to find a scripture due to only having my unmarked copy. I found one (Ether 12:6) and it was pretty great, until her husky crashed the party. The husky was absolutely adorable but also quite young so she proceeded to knock off my tag and one of my companions' glasses. She was a licker and a snuggler so the rest of the discussion was quite lively and full of laughs. Really great to meet that sister though! I'm a little bitter as I wanted to finish the New Testament before this email but have like 40 pages left so guess that's for tomorrow. I could keep yapping but this email is already too long so i'll just finish out with the usual. First though, apologies for the arabic food keeps being added to the photo album for those on there. I have deleted it a concerning amount of times but it doesn't work so im just giving up.
Scripture of the Week: (Ps, if you ever want some additional ones, I'd love to send some to you!)
2 Peter 1: 5-8
"and beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; and to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; and to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you and abound, the make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our lord Jesus Christ"
Love Yall!
