A Wynn is a Win
Hey y'all! It was kind of a crazy week as I imagine yall know. Let's get into it!
Sunday I went to that baptism I mentioned last week. It was so amazing and spiritual and just wow. I also got to try some Peruvian foods which were very nice as they are just so good! I ran into the first hermana I met on the mission as well which was so amazing as she's actually going home tomorrow now so that's likely the last time ever. I was originally going to go teaching with her on wednesday but some crazy stuff happened. Still so good to see her one last time though! I also went out teaching for an hour or so with the hermanas after and we met a lovely man who believed in god but not organized religion. He was having some struggles though that the gospel could very much help with and we were able to set up a follow up appointment with him, which was crazy cause at first he didn't even seem to want to let us in. He also had a HUGE dog and my stars I really wanted to pet it! A funny pattern ive noticed too is how so many people assume we only speak english, despite our tags. Two of us are gringas though so it makes sense. They always light up when they realized we speak spanish though which is just so beautiful. Monday was pretty chill at UVR but we had some pretty funny moments during tutoring. I believe ive mentioned both of these things but the person I tutor is Haitian creole and thus has a pretty thick accent. Additionally, ive learned she learns the quickest when I make a fool of myself. This led to me making not great drawings in an attempt to get her to learn the vocab while also doing silly expressions and sounds. This led to some pretty funny moments, such as her calling my very poor drawing of rice twees/trees and just laughing really really hard. She has now given me the nickname of Monkey since she thinks I'm so silly but she's progressing really quick so a win is a win! The clinic was pretty chill on both monday and tuesday, aside from just some silly stuff. We got some new service missionaries in so it was fun to meet some new people! One of the stroke patients that was originally in a wheelchair when I came in is getting close to walking without his cane in small increments so that has been so amazing to see. Monday night, I was not informed that class was canceled for a teacher meeting, which I then got sucked into which was like 2 hours so that wasn't great. There were cookies though! Tuesday I started at my hometown and unfortunately, there was quite a mix up. Basically, one of the volunteers was unable to contact me as they got the wrong number so they filled most of my spots on piano so I'm mostly just a sub now but it was honestly such a blessing as I really don't play much piano. I did get to test a couple of kids though to see if they're ready to enter the program and help with spanish translation a few times so I guess the spanish practice is paying off. Due to them being unable to contact me, they were also unable to inform me that tutoring doesn't start until October so whoops! Due to class being canceled again though, it just meant I got to go home early which was actually quite nice. It sounds like they'll have plenty for me to do from now on too so that will be fun. Wednesday was family haven, which was actually quite lovely until a tragic event occured, as I imagine you are all aware. It was a bit difficult as many of the staff, including myself, had family on UVU campus at the time and thus there was a lot of panic but we also had to keep it together because there were a lot of kids and many of the ones that day are already quite traumatized so that was not the greatest. Once I got home, there was also a lot of chaos due to how close I live to UVU. In happy news though, it was also my dads birthday so I got to make a little cake for him to celebrate as well as a card. I also had a lovely comp study with sister Rhinehart. On Thursday, I had my temple shift and they stuck me up in clothing issue basically the second I got there so that was a little wild. I also had my other MyHometown shift that night and got to flex my My Little Pony and Pokemon knowledge. I work in childcare there and some of the kids were really shy but grabbed coloring books of those areas and I was able to get them to open up so that was really great! This also sounds so crazy but it was really weird to be not around troubled kids because no one threw anyone or started throwing massive fits. They were all so chill which was just so weird for me! Friday was family haven again and it was a pretty chill day. One of the little boys there is in between foster homes so he's been very reluctant to affection and, while it was a little intense, it was really great because I think he's taken a liking to me as he just kept giving me hugs. He's really sweet and really needs some affection so I was glad he's decided I'm safe there. I also got to do some stuff that just healed my inner child a bit so that was really great. I then went to a devotional and then out with the hermanas. We had a different hermana today as they were doing splits and my stars she's a party! We got to give a message to a family that had a tiny little dog named Cookie and I was OBSESSED! We got some tacos again and this time I tried a little bit of lengua/tongue. It honestly wasn't bad but my gosh the mental game was real! Hermana Moala and Downs tried eye and just yuck. I watched them chop up the eye to cook it and nope. We then went on a blitz which was kind of wild. We met some really lovely people who were very much not interested in the gospel but still so beyond kind to us. We also found a cute cat and had a "discussion" with her. hma Moala was having a lot of fun with making a Wynn is a win joke the whole night too so that was pretty funny. Saturday was pretty chill, just my usual temple shift and my last time going out with the English sisters. We ended with a bang as they informed me right outside a members house that they were going to have me teach a lesson to them like they had never heard of the gospel. It was kind of terrifying but in general a really good experience. The sister had a lot of experience to share to help us with our teaching and that was much appreciated. I then parted ways with the sisters after exchanging emails to keep in touch.
I mostly just read conference talks this week so yall get a slightly old scripture in my line of study! I also prefer this one in Spanish so yall get both! (accents are hard on my keyboard so sorry that its incorrect lol)
Scripture of the Week:
2 Nephi 4:26
"...why should my heart weep and my soul linger in the valley of sorrow, and my flesh waste away, and my strength slacken, because of mine afflictions?"
"¿por què ha de llorar mi corazòn, y permanecer mi alma en el valle de dolor, y mi carne deshacerse, y mi fuerza desfallecer por causa de mis aflicciones?"
Love yall!
